'Insane' and rare lightning strike caught on camera
A rare and beautiful upwards lightning strike has been captured on camera during a night storm in Wichita, Kansas. Taylor Vonfeldt, who captured the slow-motion video with his phone, described it as the 'most insane strike of lightning' he had ever filmed. The strike can be seen emanating from the ground and 'spidering' upwards into the atmosphere, splitting into several different branches.
Upwards lightning normally emanates from artificial structures after a downwards strike, although it can occur naturally very rarely during winter storms such as this one. The storm also brought strong winds and large, nickel-sized hail stones.
