$450 million of seized narcotics burned to mark anti-drug trafficking day
The 36th annual international anti-drug trafficking day celebration was held in Myanmar’s largest city of Yangon on Monday, as drugs reportedly worth more than $446 million were burned in a huge and mind-altering bonfire. Some of the narcotics were showcased to the public (view only) before being burned, while the fire itself was accompanied by music and a parade.
Despite efforts to eradicate the country’s narcotics production problem, Myanmar remains a significant exporter of methamphetamine, and is also the world's second-largest producer of opium and heroin, behind Afghanistan.
