‘A strategic failure for Ukraine’

US State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller hadn’t been at the podium to take questions for a while. So, clearly not pulling his weight when it comes to government screw-ups, Miller performed the rarely seen double-gaffe maneuver.

Asked about Ukraine by a journalist, Miller leapt into action. ‘We believe the war has been a strategic failure for Ukraine.’ He continued for a few more sentences while the press pool did a double take, then was asked if he misspoke. It was then he delivered the coup de gras.

‘I’m sorry, excuse me, a strategic failure for Ukraine.’

Do not try this at home. US government officials are highly trained gaffe machines performing under controlled conditions, and attempts to emulate their behavior can result in severe damage to reputation and loss of dignity.
