Afghanistan almost makes a sports car

The Taliban isn’t known for its fast cars – more for the slow ones with the machine guns on the back – but they’re hoping to change that perception by unveiling the Islamic nation’s first ever supercar. The Mada 9 prototype racer has taken the engineering boffins at ENTOP five years to produce, and is powered by a Toyota Corolla engine. You know, the kind your dad drove you to school with in the 1990s. The kind that got good mileage and wasn’t very good at being a supercar no matter what your dad told your friends.

Taliban Higher Education Minister Abdul Baqi Haqqani was delighted at the new pious Prius, saying that it was ‘proof of the regime’s commitment to provide religious and modern sciences for its people.’ Meanwhile ENTOP CEO Raza Ahmadi praised Allah that he could ‘finish the construction of Afghanistan’s first car.’ He’s promised to have it ready for the upcoming Qatar Exhibition, although the world isn’t holding its breath, as no one has actually seen it move yet.
