They got some points for the effort at least.

Yeah my good friend Igor Sikorsky said, "In the days when the aircraft designer was the pilot, the aircraft crashes got rid of a lot of bad designers". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igor_Sikorsky

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: the African concept models could all improve on their thrust to lift ratios. Gotta put a powerful truck motor on a big and light sea plane

@Longshanks: Well you gotta give them points for trying.... like most of them have fuck all or almost fuck all.... AND you gain experience by thinking things through.... BUT they for the most part don't seem to be doing any wind tunnel tests, on wing sections to work out the wing lift, angles of attack and how much total load they can carry on the amount of wing area they designed in... AND they are not getting it that aircraft are relatively simple to design and build (????) starting with the POWER to WEIGHT ratio...... I mean if they had a hand plane, some nice knot free low density timbers, and fabric covered wings and body, they would probably be able to pull it off - AND although it does not have to last long, it only has to last long enough for a FEW reliable flights - at least to get it on video and arrive back on earth flying in, and not dropping in....... I mean 1 or 2 layers of heat shrinked garbage bags over the low air flow speed areas over the wings etc.. I have put up a few videos on building aircraft.... the modern kit ones and ones from WW1.... Very educational.

@Longshanks: Hand plane = wood working tool... so they can make more precise and thinner wooden spars and I forget the name of the bits that carry the fabric or alumium...

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: there was a german plane that was the precursor for the A10 warthog with the turboprop engines above the fuselage..that was made out of wood. So wood is definitely the way to go when starting out indeed. They need to focus on building boats first I think haha then graduate to the more risky fluid

@Life_N_Times_of_Shane_T_Hanson: here's the wooden turboprop I mentioned previously https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinkel_He_162

@Longshanks: There is a book that was published a LONG time ago... maybe 35 or 40 years ago... This MIGHT be a reprint of it... https://www.goodreads.com/en/b....ook/show/937307.Why_ But you know that wood weight for weight outperforms many of the best metals in many ways... But it has it's limitations and draw backs too... Ummm I have always wanted to build a replica of a V1 Flying bomb, that was made to carry a 900 Kg warhead of Amatol and survive a launch from ZERO to 320 Kmh in 50 meters, so the airframe has to survive this massive acceleration AND comtain it's contents and hold together... SO if you take out all the 900 Kg of amatol and use a piston engine and landing gear (wheels) and make the airframe from timber and increase the wing area, and control surfaces, like slotted flaps and aerolons and a bigger tail and rudder etc., one should end up with a much slower flying practical 2 seater aircraft that fits inside a single car garage or trailer..... https://upload.wikimedia.org/w....ikipedia/commons/b/b ---- https://eu-browse.startpage.co....m/av/anon-image?piur ---- https://www.the-blueprints.com..../vectordrawings/show ------ https://www.ulsteraviationsoci....ety.org/v-1-flying-b ----- https://www.vintagemodelcompan....y.com/12-5-crossley- - as you can see they are a very small aircraft - and if they were redesigned NOT as a flying bomb, but as a commercial 2 seater aircraft With a stall speed of say 60 Kmh and a top speed of 200 Kmh... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_Ngo....yZNLnBY/UbiCL7kOFkI/ ------ http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fPov....bjFAEZs/UbiCJVSzLzI/ ------ The piloted version - is still a flying bomb - but if they are redesigned to be a daily flyer... everything will be different - similar size and shape and a practical small aircraft. https://www.keymilitary.com/ar....ticle/reichenberg-v1 ------- https://www.warrelics.eu/forum..../germany-ww1-ww2-arm -------- http://www.scaleworkshop.com/g....allery/fi103a135dk_1

@Longshanks: And the people in Africa - are not designing them properly from the outset - by making them VERY light from the get go. The Construction of a Light Aircraft 1943 -- https://www.mgtow.tv/v/PNFnJZ
