America's "Debt-Slave" Value System

It's a convoluted mating ritual. The guys need bigger and more expensive stuff to keep their women or attract one, while the women need bigger and more expensive stuff to gatekeep low-status men away from them. Since attractiveness isn't a zero-sum game, you end up with a peacock situation where something does look pretty, but fails in most useful and practical aspects because it chose to spend all its developmental resources in attracting a mate.
