The story was that he crossed the tracks to catch his train, and he climed under this one that was parked there...

But the train started moving as he was under it - so he just laid flat and let it pass over him.

Normally almost all trains have a running clearance under them, between themselves and the track.

It seems to be a design feature to give people a "last chance" if they fall onto the tracks in the path of an oncoming train, as well as using bigger wheels and under train clearances to allow the trains to not be derailed by everything that goes under them.

So you "Lay Flat" - keeps you arms and legs in. flat and straight, and your head turned sideways.

BUT as someone who has worked on and made parts for and repaired locomotives and rolling stock - one very rare occassions - things like brake components and linkages etc., can be hanging down dragging on the ballast and sleepers.... I saw it once on an intercity express going past...

I mean I would be OK with laying on the tracks, with no ballast (rocks) on top of the sleepers, and the underside of the train had been inspected by the guys who service and maintain them, and just having the train rolling over me at walking speed... Just for the exprience.

But no fucking way would I get anywhere near them ---- Nooooooo fucking way.

But in looking around foir train servicing pits - all the NEW modern places are really fucking NICE.
