Arizona cops stand by as drowning man begs for help
Bodycam footage has shown that three Arizona police officers stood by and did nothing while a man begged for help while drowning.
The police had been called to a domestic disturbance between Sean Bickings and his partner. While checking them for outstanding warrants, Bickings ran past the officers and told them ‘I’m gonna go for a swim’ before jumping over the railings into a nearby lake. The officers wondered how far he would be able to get, but Bickings soon found himself in trouble and started claiming he was drowning. The officers instructed him to swim to safety and even told him ‘I’m not jumping in after you’. Emotional pleas from his partner only led to the officers threatening to have her arrested. Bickings later drowned, with his body recovered hours later.
Bodycam footage of the incident, but not the drowning itself, and a transcript have been released while Scottsdale police investigate the incident. The three officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
