Artyomovsk under ‘de jure’ Russian control

Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut by Ukraine, is now ‘legally’ under the control of pro-Russian forces. Evgeny Prigozhin, head of the ‘Wagner’ Private Military Company, made the announcement in a video filmed in front of the city’s administrative building.

If the capture is confirmed, it will mark the end of the most intense battle seen in the conflict so far. The city is seen as the strategic gateway for further Russian advancement, or a militarily insignificant city that both sides have been fighting over for no apparent reason, depending on which outlet you believe.
