"Normal" here is not good or even acceptable, it's just dishonest. Take that example where she doesn't want to ask. She is asking, but pretending not to, which is more annoying, even needier, and parsing her "non-asking" means you're not being thoughtful, just obedient. It's just self-delusion coupled with lying. The problem isn't being autistic or ADHD or whatever, it's that we tolerate mild anti-social tendencies to the point that they have become the norm, and they in turn are extremely intolerant toward people who don't want to partake in their vices.
It is a disability and it has limited my life completely. I can actually understand behavioral patterns between others but when they are directed at me I seem to be completely blind to them. I have never been on a second date and find it hard to have conversations with people who are "normal". My family has learned to deal with me without being hateful about it and sometimes have to take time away from me and i completely understand that. But never being seen as someone worth dating/marrying is painful most of the time. I'm 43, can't hold down a job. Graduated with an associates degree in IT but always get put on helpdesk stuff so wind up getting panic attacks and leaving work. My favorite job was as a delivery driver for a local supply company. All I had to do was go to a place and drop off the goods then get a signature. Was pretty easy and got to drive all over the city I lived near. Minimal interaction with people. That is best for me.
Bluntness and honesty are "toxic" traits nowadays.
