Yep. I use a Linux LIVE to break up all HDDs' into what MSOS on "C" drive needs [2 primary] & then depending on space left over 2 extended which count as primaries with as many partions within those with or not other OS's including MSOS & or Linux flavors. One 500mb drive I use has MSOS from '95 thru '11 & with PortableApps as the go to programs on a different HDD along with all the Window versions preferences saved in their own folders I just hit a few clickies after a re-install of whatever OS. The HDD $ drops over time really made a difference from when I started back in da olden daze ... Fuck Me ... damn thing had X-Mas tree light bulbs & on/off toggle switches, front cover of Popular Mechanics ... LOL fuck
Normally if I have a computer I'll run two hard drives. The small one is only the operating system and the big drive for everything else. And yes I'd back up everything that matters. Although I haven't had a PC since well SSD's came out.

Hey, I keep most of my important files backed up on jumpdrives or external harddrives.
