When I used to live in the big city, there was a road called Sydney Road - in Brunswick. It was the road from Melbourne to Sydney... and when that road got busy - I called it "The Meat Mincer for Cyclists" https://maps.app.goo.gl/zEYw2opHGFbDDJVZA
But riding a block or two either side of it were quiet back streets, and bicycle paths.

During the busiest hours of the day, all the back streets were generally very quiet, the short blocks on the back streets meant that the cars were going very slow from intersection to intersection...
And the bike paths, kept you out of the traffic entirely..... for almost the entire route.
While what that guy on the bicycle was doing was all correct - BRIGHT easy to see clothing, right on the edge of the road, etc... a quiet time of day etc.. I kind of still avoid big roads and fast traffic and take all the snails pace back streets, with almost no cars on them and take all the bike paths and parks and trails etc..
He could not have helped what happened, they are just fucking stupid cunts that ought to be executed....
But staying off the big roads and away from the faster traffic, and even on the foot paths in some areas, is always a GOOD idea.
