Bodycam footage of death of BLM founder’s cousin released
Keenan Anderson, cousin of Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, has died following a medical emergency after a protracted arrest. Cullors was quick to point the finger at the Los Angeles Police Department, claiming that they were responsible for his death. However, bodycam footage of the arrest has cast severe doubt on those claims.
In the footage released, police approach Anderson after reports that he had tried to steal someone’s car. Anderson appears to behave erratically, shouts: ‘they’re trying to kill me’ as a first resort, before repeatedly ignoring basic instructions and then absent-mindedly running into the middle of a road, where multiple police restrain him. The increasingly agitated Anderson then begins to yell: ‘I know too much,’ at which point he is tased and taken to the hospital. A toxicology report later revealed Anderson to have both cocaine and cannabis in his system.
Cullors, who has repeatedly been accused of misappropriating BLM donations for personal use, has not commented on the footage.
