Chimp raised in captivity sees the sky for the first time
Vanilla spent most of her life in a New York biomedical research facility, where chimps are routinely kept in tiny cages suspended from the ground. Now, at the ripe old age of 28, Vanilla has the freedom to roam a 3-acre island sanctuary thanks to her rescue by Save The Chimps.
Having never seen the open sky before, Vanilla was apprehensive at first, but was encouraged by her new family, and soon lost all inhibitions, monkeying around with the best of them.
