Construction of massive residential area begins in Mariupol
The residential heartland of Mariupol once lay in rubble, having seen some of the most intense urban fighting of the conflict. Now, homes are rebuilt anew, as a massive residential area begins construction. The new area will contain schools, kindergartens, and 2,500 new homes, all in a 100,000 square meter complex.
Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, and Russian Deputy Minister of Defense, Timur Ivanov, visited the construction site on Friday, and took a tour of the first completed apartment. The first six houses are due to be completed by September, with a further six by October. ‘I hope they will be happy owners’, said Ivanov.
In addition to the residential infrastructure, a multifunctional medical center, a new water pipeline and three concrete factories are to be built as part of the Mariupol restoration effort, conducted with aid from Moscow, St Petersburg and Tula.
