Dog owners rally in Madrid against animal abandonment

Hundreds of dog owners, together with their pets, took part in the tenth edition of the 'Sanperrestre' in Madrid. The event simulates a marathon for domestic animals, and is an awareness-raising walk through the streets of the Spanish capital.

This year’s version of the well-known San Silvestre race aims to protest against the abandonment of pets and to draw attention to the advantage of adopting rather than buying dogs or cats. Funds raised will go to the animal protection institution ‘El Refugio’, the organizer of the event.
