Massive wildfire destroyed more than 2,000 hectares of forest and greenery and burned several residential buildings on Mount Penteli, the northern outskirts of Athens.

Now I am not from there, but from what I have seen, the fires are NOT that fierce - not like a big Australian fires, and so I would put it down to a lack of preparation - like water tanks, fire hoses and water pumps and sprinklers, AND that most of the houses etc., are not designed and built like the ones in Australia... like with non flammable exteriors, entrances blocked to embers, and all the flammable materials removed from around and near the houses...
