Yeah it's a bit tragic - but it's fairly obvious - in human terms, these are pretty big waves, they are very well aerated - so you sink, instead of float and there are NO easy exit routes... like say a sandy beach...
It's a bit hard saying, "Oh no I can't get out!" AFTER it's so fucking obvious and one you have already jumped in it.
