Hundreds of environmental activists took to the streets in New York City, demanding a ban on fossil fuels, as wildfires in Canada continued. People marched, chanted slogans and carried banners reading, 'This is a climate emergency', 'Your greed = Climate chaos’ and 'Stop bankrolling fossil fuels,’ among others.
Skyscrapers and streets in the Big Apple were blotted out by orange smog earlier in the week, as smoke from the wildfires raging in Canada continued to drift across the northeastern part of the US.
