One of the things you soon understand as a professional welding engineer, is that especially when welding overhead, and with stick welding, is that big hot drops of moltern iron come down on you - anywhere from little bits of spatter, to proper drops or even blobs if you lose the weld pool.... AND dressing in all the protective safety gear is very helpful.... And you soon understand that there are three kinds of clothing - things like thick leather hoods and vests and sleeves and gloves etc. that don't burn much or very well; ---- then there are other fabrics that tend to smoulder or burn slowly if they catch fire - like heavy cotton - and they don't stick to the flesh while burning; ---- and then there are materials like most synthetics that catch fire easily, they burn with great gusto and they stick to the skin when burning... This stupid fuck has apparently discovered the disadvantages of wearing synthetics in the middle of a fire. You see NOT getting deep holes burned into your head, down your back, your elbows etc., is a premium kind of an issue - so welding and welding clothing, is more or less highly specific and very fashionable - for the task at hand. Overhead heavy steel welding - is the most interesting in terms of getting burned and the clothing is designed to specifically suit.... https://www.eskosafety.com/wp-....content/uploads/2019 ----- https://www.eskosafety.com/wp-....content/uploads/2019 ----- https://www.eskosafety.com/wp-....content/uploads/2019 ----- https://www.eskosafety.com/wp-....content/uploads/2019 ----- and then there is general welding - with heavy cotton overalls, and leather gloves - and the mandatory safety boots and shit... for general welding - maybe with leather sleeves.... But with Dear Dumb Fuck wearing the Fashionable Floral Flambe - This is why because of my profession, and because of my experiences with fuel and motorcycles etc., I basically REFUSE to wear flammable clothing - maybe layered between cotton and cotton in places and locations where there is NEVER likely to be any fire... as things like polar fleece ponchos are great in icy cold weater... over a T shirt and under a heavier cotton long sleeve shirt... but NEVER synthetics on their own.... Cotton - usually smoulders slowly and it burns slowly... It's predictable and safe when you do catch fire when welding.. where as synthetics - like that dickhead was wearing - drinking, fire, wearing synthetics and then jumping into the said fire... Well fuck me - you can see what happens. My genuine fear of fires and motor cycles comes from fuel spills, split fuel lines ruptured fuel tanks, and crashes etc.... So depending upon the weather, jeans, thicker abrason resistant jackets - with some burn time on them, and or leathers etc., can go a long way towards preventing bad burns in crashes....
