Strangely enough very few people talk about the principle of faking it until you make even though it has a lot of overlap with other concepts that are talked about in the pillo-sphere.

Like you say, your skills will be exaggerated if you're good looking, and understated if you're not good looking.
I wonder if personality is legitimate. I think, to a great extent, people are trained to prefer certain personalities by television and film, and how much you resemble a favorable one is what matters. Which isn't exactly your personality at work, but how favorably you interact with their Hollywood brainwashing.
Why bother making it if faking it worked? People who repeat this phrase, in my experience, are eternal frauds. They fake it, never make it, and keep finding new things to fake.
I never liked that phrase. I saw it as a form of dishonesty.
