Barter doesn't work. High-skilled people get shafted by barter. Let's say we're trading services for services. A farmhand wants to see a doctor. An hour of the doctor's time is worth many hours of the farmhand's time. Do you think the farmhand will swallow his pride and not make it personal? Of course not. The farmhand doesn't mind working for a fraction of the doctor's hourly wage and paying the doctor's bill when he's ill, but he will throw a tantrum when he finds out an hour of the doctor's time is worth many hours of his.
I will only ever transact in currency. Cash, metal, crypto, seashells if I have to, but never barter.
