Four-ton shrine carried during Torigoe Matsuri procession in Japan
Hundreds participated in the Torigoe Matsuri procession to carry Tokyo’s heaviest portable shrine, also known as sengan-mikoshi. Carriers shuttled the four-ton shrine through the streets, with local police overseeing the event. It usually concludes the Torigoe festival, as visitors gather to witness a parade led by a participant dressed as folk deity Sarutahiko, accompanied by Tekomai dancers in traditional attire and children carrying colorful flags.
