Gen X were the last generation to grow up in a pre-internet world. What the current crop of youngsters call "abuse" and such, was just our natural world. We didn't have The Encyclopedia Britannica in a small device at our fingertips, so we had to find and retain information long-term. May I say how impressed I am that so many who've come after us sees this is some kind of deprivation--as if inconvenience is somehow hostile.
Gen X got things done because there was no way around it. We used our imaginations and discovered how things work on our own, while the current crop of youngsters can't take a breath without asking Siri or Alexa or going to Wikipedia. Is this anger? Naah, this is confidence: the ability to fall back on one's own processing and cognition to overcome problems instead of remaining in mental "coast" mode while some other entity does the work we need done.
As just a small example, look at Star Wars. Our generation was the OT--a story that was consistent, made sense, and was full of legitimate surprises and heroic moments. The PT was mostly flash and noise, but still had a coherent story because it had to lead into what the OT created in value. The ST is an incoherent mess of patched-together scenes and dialogue, inconsistent from one scene to the next because its audience is unable to pay attention for more than a few seconds at a time. The ST is a series of disparate scenes meant to evoke an emotion that changes with the very next scene.
There's a scene in the movie The Breakfast Club in which the cruel principal says, "What scares me is that these are the kids who'll be taking care of me when I'm older." The janitor replies, "I wouldn't count on it." The implication is clear to everybody--don't assume that you won't be accountable for your actions later. I can see the inverse of that now: Gen Z/Mills are denigrating Gen X, partially by ignoring us and partially by insulting us, and we're the last group of people who can save their asses from the fruits of their own incompetence... but I wouldn't count on it.
Iam GenX we give a Shit about gettin Doxed Come to our Home Fuck with us and see what you Get No Talk but Action but not in a Fun way
