The desk job, white collar jobs are one of the worst things to happen for humans in the modern day due to how sedentary it makes us. When you have to spend 1/3 or even half of your day pushing papers with very little activity it's no wonder why people have health issues. Said issues are compounded by the quick easy "food" people tend to buy- candy, donuts, sugary drinks, etc. It's a perfect storm for declining health and quality of life.
Shane, what kind of diet do you have? I think most people know that excess carbs and sugar are horrible for our health, but what big food and pharma don't tell us is that the foods they tell us are unhealthy are actually the most healthy- animal fats are top of the list, followed by red meat. Humans absolutely need the fat, saturated fat and cholesterol provided by eating these foods, not to mention the list of other vitamins and nutrients. These health clowns will try to twist the facts about vegetables that they provide all the same vitamins, but leave out the fact that they are not the same from what you get from animal products and are much less effective and often detrimental to our health. Plus veggies are often loaded with anti-nutrients that will block the body's ability to absorb what IS beneficial to us. Vegetables, and the byproducts of them, are toxic for us, particularly in the long run. Fruits aren't much better since they do contain sugar- a better option than veggies, but not by much.
This might seem ass backwards, but having a diet that consists mostly of animal fat and protein will actually help you to drop excess body fat. You just cannot combine it with carbs and sugar or that fat will get deposited around your muscles and organs and get stored up as more excess fat.
Definitely get some exercise too like you said- it's beneficial for all of us to get active for general health purposes. That being said, for the purposes of weight loss, the diet is much more impactful than exercise. A very poor diet is going to negate what exercise you do in that manner, so get the diet sorted first and foremost.
Apologies for the long post, but I felt compelled to toss in my two cents on the matter. Take care of yourself friend.
