How it started: local report from Colombo amid Sri Lankan turmoil

As unrest erupted in Sri Lanka amid severe economical crisis, with thousands of protesters occupying presidential official residence, party leaders demand both the head of state and the government step down. Riot police used tear gas against demonstrators, amid clashes across the capital. At least 42 people were reportedly injured in the clashes, including at least two security officers.
