Do you know how long ago we had this penalty figured out? Circa 1700 BC, Hammurabi figured this out. If you falsely accuse someone, you are to get the penalty that they would have gotten had they been convicted. The penalty was frequently execution. I don't think the ancient Babylonians did a lot of false accusing!

You have a great point on the matter of extrajudicial punishment. You're not supposed to lose your job when someone points the finger at you. Firing employees for being accused of a crime needs to be criminalized. People get fired long before they get convicted, and the loss of income affects their ability to retain a legal defense. This is an undue influence on the outcome of a criminal case, and the government needs to start punishing it as such.
