All this talk of genetic engineering makes me think about the god-emperor of mankind. What if you are bio-engineered into a thunder warrior? You get crazy strong but at the expense of a short life expectancy and suffer from all kind of failures into your body.
The space marines were better made but they still had flaws (thousand sons).
For the primarchs some of them resented being used as nothing but tools by their father and it all ended up into the Horus Heresy.
