I got the maths fucked up - very tired.
A kangaroo typically cruises at ~60 Kmh which is a shave under 17 meters a second - the trees grow fastest where there is clear sunlight, and behind the fast low growth on the side of the road, is kind of bushy sort of open scrub land, and the kangaroos have their favourite trails that they "cross country" on, at their long distance cruising speed.....
So from the time they appear from between the scrub at the edge of the road, until they are 3 or so meters into the center of the road, it's about 1/3rd of a second.
This is why I cruise through these types of roads at 45 - 50 Kmh - because the roos just appear out of nowhere, and if your going to have a crash, it won't kill you or write the car off.
If your stopping distance is a car length or so, most times, your able to brake and avoid most of the crashes, most of the time.
