That's because left-right is not linear. Life under Hitler (right) was very similar to life under Stalin (left). It's a big circle with those two extremes at the bottom. The people on the left need the people on the right to keep them from falling too far down that slope, and vice versa.
So if the people on the left need to the people on the right, to stop them from falling too far down the slope, then the people on the right, need the people on the left, to stop them from falling too far up the slope. Drugs are Bad - Mmmm K.
I have a radical idea. If you skip the mandated labelling, people are more or less identical as are their causes. A Guy called John Saffran did a special on Race Relations, and what became apparent was that no matter what alliegances the groups had, the members would interact with and swap positions on different topics for different reasons.... At the "Reclaim Australia" Ralley - all of the sides were out in full kit, but their alliegances chopped and changed like the blowing winds.
