My favorite part of that movie was that they got the scourge correct. People equate a scourge with a cat-o'-nine-tails. A scourge is worse, equally painfully but far less likely to kill you. That way you get to relive the experience over and over in your mind, or at least I assume they were thinking along those lines.
Crucifixion is a horrible punishment also. Nothing quite like having bird's eat your eyes while you are still alive.
