Kenyan president urges Africa to dump dollar for African trade
Trade between African countries uses the US dollar, and if you think that’s weird, so does most of Africa. Kenyan President William S. Ruto, however, is trying to do something about it. Afreximbank, the African Export-Import Bank, has set up a mechanism to allow African countries to trade their own goods and services in their own currencies, and Ruto is encouraging everyone in Africa to ditch the dollar. The idea is, apparently, quite popular (although probably not in the US).
