Leaving Your Family Will Make You Appreciate Them More

When I left home, it took me a couple of years to discover how horribly my single mother (and her various, alcoholic husbands) screwed me over. What knowledge I left "home" with was no damned good in the real world and it took a LOT of reworking my thinking meat to get into something remotely resembling adult competence. When I finally got straight I "divorced" everybody buy my older brother, who was in the same boat. Happily he and I have become better friends as men than we were able to as boys.
