Este es un tema importante porque hay una correlación estrecha con el término 'bono demográfico', donde un medida sana es que la población económicamente activa (PEA, población entre 16 y 65 años) sea el 60% y el 40% restante es sostenido ya sea por asistencia social o por subsidios en educación y salud.
En Venezuela esa era la situación hasta el 2010 en la actualidad esta relación se ha invertido, es decir, la población menor de 16 años y mayor a 65 años es ya del 65%. Lo que quiere decir que aunque retornen a un súper gobierno capitalista, están en la encrucijada que aún produciendo alimentos y servicios para cubrir todas sus necesidades, no tendrían la demanda de consumo suficiente. Las empresas no tienen garantizado un mercado y por tanto se alejarán del país.
Esta es la razón de porque China se ha desarrollado tanto. Si bien eran subdesarrollados su PEA permaneció relativamente intacto. Esta situación no se da en Cuba ni en Venezuela, pero los migrantes de estos países van justamente a incrementar el bono en los países que los acogen, esta es básicamente la política de Canadá y algunas naciones europeas.
