Another assassination where the CIA is involved.
Lumumba spoke up about the horrible treatment of his compatriots during the second half of the 1800's under Belgian's king Leopold II. This upset the Belgian king at the time, as well as a lot of business leaders who had economical interests in the Congo (minerals etc) and who feared missing out.
Not sure what the CIA motivation was in the assassination, but I can imagine they did not like a free state in Africa, as it could inspire others to do the same.
Result : military dictator Mobutu grabbed power, and ruled with a (corrupt) iron fist until his death in 1997.
