Exactly. The gold standard would be superb if we actually had coins minted out of gold (a piece on the middle of it), that way anyone could literally know how much gold is in their possession. Having gold tradable on demand is how things get in trouble; people just always assume the gold is there, and they will rarely check if it all is truly backed up. We need currency backed up by rare-earth metals, services, or other materials and services. If we treat gold like a simple industrial metal [and deny hoarding it or worshipping it], then nobody will care about all the gold the elite have hoarded. If we refuse to accept gold for anything, then they lose all that stolen wealth pretty quickly. Gold, platinum, palladium, tungsten, etc can be found in asteroids and nearby planets and moons. We need to focus on mining in space in order to eliminate scarcity on Earth. But the elite douchebags would destroy the whole planet before that happened.
