Next time I go to the bike shop. I don't have any Triumphs but one of the places I go has a section of them.

I like the more simple bikes - so when you crash them your not up for half the bikes purchase price for a handful of plastic bits...

And despite the modern bullshit - the British Universal Motorcycle - the vertical twin Triumph / BSA etc.. is a pretty good all round comfortable, useable real world motorcycle.

All of these things that go 3 x the legal limit and have no room for a passenger or baggage etc., and are NOT easy to get on and off, and are pricks to get through city traffic - well fuck them.

And the modern Dukatties - where the rider in front is exposing his anus to you, and you to the rider after you etc., etc., etc., well it gives me a sense of foreboding.

I don't think real men should be riding such things.

Actually the BUM (British Universal Motorcycle) was a really fucking good design... a LONG flat seat, lowish seat height, appropriately wide handle bars, a good torquey engine - not massive amounts of high speed... reallygood for slow city traffic and modestly speedy lanes and also faster long range trips... Easy to work on... and all that and easy to get on and off and park and steer in both fast corners and cramped areas between cars in heavy traffic..... and the ridiing position is GOOD and UPRIGHT and healthy... How the whole fucking marketin evolved into unless your riding a formula one level super bike, your a loser, when the superbike racing style bikes, are not really practical... I mean you can't hop on them with a set of BIG saddle bags and trot down to the sunday / farmers markets and do a heap of shopping... Can't do it on a super bike... AND you can't control superbikes on loose surfaces and muddy roads... but because the BUM has an upright seating position and wide handle bars and it's easy to force the bike around, with and with and without a foot or feet down, you can easily go places on them that the super bikes can't.... But the BUM is a really really good, sensible layout and it's an excellent all round ride.
