I found myself with a lot money in my early twenties and my dad said it would be a good idea to buy a house so I did. I lived there with my significant other for many years. The neighborhood learned quickly that despite everything, I have the personality of a cranky old man that tells people pipe down and get off my lawn. We never had any real issues with anyone. Most found it odd for young couple to live there, but we just went with it. The rooms that where typically used for childrens bedrooms got turned into a home office and walk-in-closet. We kept to ourselves. At some point it was better for us to move and I keep the property. My dad asked if I would let a cousin of mine and his girlfriend move in. The house market had turned to hell at this point. I made it clear I was against it and was only doing it because dad helped me with the layers and legal stuff that made possible for me to own the property. I let my cousin move in and he trashed the place. My cousin learn things the hard way because I kicked him out to have the place renovated and was put up for rent again. My family ask if they can rent it them? The answer was no. I went trough a 3rd party that did background checks on everyone and deals with the renters. The place is rented to people I never met or talked to before. As far as I knew everything was fine. Until 2 weeks ago that is. The women from houses number 4 and 5 started texting me with noise complaints, drug use and they felt unsafe and some other things. My unit is number two but units 1 and 3 which were next to mine didn't send me any messsages. Apparently this was going on for months now. I wondered why it was 4 and 5, but not 1 and 3 texting me. 1 phoned when my cousin was trashing the place, gave aces to his camera's for the shady stuff that was going on and we agreed if there was problems with the renters, he would call me. I told the women in units 4 and 5 to call the cops if they had problems. 5 was not happy and told me her son rented out as well and that as the landlord I had to do something. I shot back that in that case she should know I can't do anything without an official complaint and renters have rights too. Eventually the guy in unit 1 called me nand I went to the house that night and there was a party going on. Even with all the noise I saw 4 and 5 where sound asleep in their homes, while I heard mild jazz music form my place. I could barley hear anything at 3 let alone at unit 4 or 5. The complaints where ungrounded. The front door was open and while I walked by everything looked fine to me. Hell, I even talked to some of the teenage guests at the front. They seemed well mannered. I never spoke to the renters. The next day the guy in unit one 1 told me he was ok with the renters. Nothing that needed my attention. It seems the teenage son has a habit of hanging out in front with friends smoking pot which is legal here. I'm happy his parents are upholding the no smoking in the house rule. The kids stay at 2, the sons own freaking house. So I realy don't see what the problem is. The house looks fine, the rents paid on time. I don't bother them and they bother me. Unless 1 and 3 are having problems the women from 4 and 5 can bite me, but they will be sorry.
