Nebraska retiree uses earths's heat to grow oranges in snow
Winter temperatures in Alliance, Nebraska can drop to -20°F (the record low is -40°F/C), but retired mailman Russ Finch grows oranges in his backyard greenhouse without paying for heat. Instead, he draws on the earth's stable temperature (around 52 degrees in his region) to grow warm weather produce- citrus, figs, pomegranates - in the snow.
Finch first discovered geothermal heating in 1979 when he and his wife built it into their 4400-square-foot dream home to cut energy costs. Eighteen years later they decided to add a 16'x80' greenhouse in the backyard. The greenhouse resembles a pit greenhouse (walipini) in that the floor is dug down 4 feet below the surface and the roof is slanted to catch the southern sun.
To avoid using heaters for the cold Nebraska winter nights, Finch relies on the warm underground air fed into the greenhouse via plastic tubing under the yard and one fan.
Finch sells a "Citrus in the Snow" report detailing his work with his "geo-air" greenhouses and says anyone can build a market-producing greenhouse for about $25,000 or "less than the cost of a heat system on a traditional greenhouse".

i imagine the folks who live in earthships in Texas are just fine during this frozen weather that happened all last week. where everyone else is fucked beyond reasoning because they depend on the power that the grid provides, and then we come to find out most of their power was produced with wind turbines and they pretty much don't use any other option when it comes to providing power to the rest of the state because of corrupt politicians who moved the entire state off of any other resource like an fucking moron jumping on the dick of the green new deal, shit that only works when the infrastructure you are using only needs one power source.
bad news is that shit can happen at any given point in time, so it's best to be prepared with multiple options in case something else fails, it's like investing, don't put all your money in one pot, you need to diversify your assets as some of these options may not pan out, in fact think of using this mentality with everything in your life.
this way, you will be able to withstand anything that comes your way, because you were ready for it when the time came.
that's a great way to use the heat that is transferred through the tubes, it reminds me of the cooling tube that earthships use, but if you heat your house with the heating tubes isn't that bad either, the way they take advantage of that with an earthship is built into the foundation where they put the tires as the tires serve as the thermal mass that keeps the earthship heated for the most part.
we are going to have to get creative if we want to live through bidens rule.
you know to post the important things, don't you.
unfortunately, it seems like most ppl here don't care, when they really should care as this will become the future because biden and his government cronies who will enforce that farms shut down, just so his great reset plans will come to an reality.
i predict a lot of ppl will die this year due to the lock downs and bidens plans for America in collapsing the food market along with the economy we are going to have to start to live like our ancestors in the 1800s, but we to have some advantages in tech, so it will be a little easier, but maybe not because not everyone will be able to afford the new tech needed and might have to do it old school anyway.
