Sharp chips flying off would explain why they used to wear leather aprons. Interesting video.

Well a 0.45" bullet has the same amount of energy as an average person falling out of bed and hitting the floor. I suppose you can cross calculate what kind of damage falling onto a 1/2" steel rod - deeply embedded into the ground... It would be about the same as a bullet going into you.... So when someone hits an anvil with a big hammer fairly hard - and a jagged razor edged chip flies off at 1/2 the weight of a conventional 0.45" bullet, and at a cracking sort of a speed, it's not an insignificant issue. This is why safety glasses and face shields come in a variety of impact designations from low, to medium and then high impact resistance. If your ever after REALLY great sunglasses, for the bright glary days when driving etc., These Shade 3 arc flash protection glasses are very nice.... Soothing... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/402579002058
