New York man wants his alligator back after authorities confiscated it
‘Give him back to me and make it snappy.’ (You can’t imagine how sorry we are for that one.)
A man in Buffalo, New York is fighting for the return of his best friend – a 34-year-old, 750-pound alligator named Albert. Officers seized the 11-foot (3.35 meter) gator earlier this month, after discovering owner Tony Cavallaro’s license to keep him had expired in 2021. In addition, he’d reportedly been letting others pet Albert, including children, which is illegal for so many reasons.
Cavallaro says Albert is ‘a big baby,’ and that he was happy living in the private enclosure he’d built for him. He maintains that Albert is no threat, having been raised in captivity around humans.
Cavallaro has not enlisted the help of a legal team to get Albert back, but has amassed an astonishing amount of support online. A ‘Free Albert’ petition has been signed by more than 120,000 people, with t-shirts, stickers and even a song all being created to support the cause. Albert was not available for comment.
