I disagree that pro-communists would be against criminals. If you ask any contemporary of the Soviet Union they'd tell you stealing was basically acceptable. The idea is that "all property belongs to the people" so petty theft, especially of constructed goods, would be common. In fact, those same contemporaries will victim-blame victims of petty theft and say you're in the wrong for wanting to defend yourself much in the same way you described.
