Oldest Palestinian prisoner freed after 17 years

Fouad Al-Shobaki, the oldest Palestinian prisoner in Israeli detention, has been released after 17 years in jail. The 83-year-old was released on Monday, having been detained in 2006 after being accused of weapons smuggling into Gaza.

Al-Shobaki remained defiant as he addressed crowds in Ramallah upon his release. ‘We have done our duty and we will remain in struggle. We will complete the path that Yasser Arafat, Mahmoud Abbas, and all the brothers started, and praise be to God.’
