I think of the biblical situation where the women was caught nailing the married guy. A bit weird that they only dragged her off and not the guy as well, but whatever. Christ said that he basically didn't condemn her, but nevertheless to go forth and sin no more, which I think is key. This is where it gets tricky, however, because while it's an absolutely wonderful thing if people can change for the better, how often does this happen? Typically, it seems like it doesn't. We can try to allow for it, and hopefully we ourselves can become better as well, and hopefully there will be allowances for this to be possible without us having to infinitely dwell in the past, as long as we really do change for the better. However, it's so rare that peoples' core character actually changes, even to the point that it seems potentially imaginary, and we as individuals have limited time and resources. With this in mind, we may be able to leave the door open for people to improve, and they have a duty to do so as do we, but enabling abuses of patience and understanding by just acting as infinite doormats, how does that help anything? That's incredibly common, as well, if not ubiquitous. I like what Angry Guy says here about how society doesn't forget. There are lasting consequences. However, I think it's good that we leave some room for improvement, but I don't think that means we need to fall for garbage and act like nothing happened. The responsibility is on the individual who did wrong to sort out their shit and make restitution. It's not all up to everyone else to just say it's fine. A lot of the time a pile of shit is shoveled, like it's up to the rest of us to just eat shit and say it's fine, but I don't think that's exactly what Christ was doing or saying there. I think a key about handling the bad behavior is actually seeing that it does have serious consequences for the idiot who does it, and that even those alone will punish the person. But we should never simp or pretend it didn't happen. Let the evil itself punish itself. No need to take up rocks, but stop sleeping with and supporting people like that.
