A Jewish author wrote a book a few years ago both celebrating and lamenting the loss of the once large Jewish communities in the Caribbean. Why did these wealthy communities pop up? The slave trade they ran. Why did they leave? Slavery was abolished and they couldn't make any more easy money. The author never touched on the moral aspect, he only bemoaned the loss of the Jewish wealth, power and influence. Imagine the outrage if anyone else had written something like that, yet it went unnoticed. Wish I could remember the name of it.
