I understand that the British taxed the Indians and acquired the goods and used the same tax dollars to pay the Indians using "commissary bills" then used the finished goods to trade for gold and lumber, which they used to finance their military industrial complex to fight their wars, at the time.
I understand they would cut the thumbs off of loomsmen who made textiles outside the system in order to prevent them from profiting. This was basically 2nd order theft.
Historical accounts claim they brutalized the Indians and conscripted them to fight on behalf of the British Crown. This was done because England did not have many resources to trade with at the time.
