My mom was a drunken slut as her mom was and she made life hell for me. I was too much like her older brother, my favorite Uncle and my Dad and I shared ideas about behavior that she failed in . It's never too late to grow away from the maternal plantation.
You miss one thing - it's about control. If a woman lives in the moment, has unrealistic expectations of everybody and at the same time is the center of the universe (reminds you of a 6-year old girl yet?) what she needs for her narcissistic self is more control over somebody. It can be children or dogs.
She can't really control anything that is not interested in her pussy with exception of pets, it's too time consuming. That also allows her to view herself as a savior, a goddess, as the center of the universe. She will be worshipped by her pets, she can boss them around (they will do a lot for treats) and she can punish them, get rid of them or euthanize them any time she wants, with no consequences. A dream come true. A dream of a 6-year old girl, that is.
You forgot one category. Empty nester pet moms. That category is lame, probably not as bad as the cat lunatics, but it is depressing to be around those vaginal fluid drippers.
They're are ALWAYS sad. Either because they do not have their children (AKA full grown men/son husband) or because they are outside doing whatever, being pumped for example, and their son (the 4 legged one) is home alone.
And yes, they do celebrate the pet's anniversary, sleep with it in bed, some even do eat with it at the table. Discussing.
With that said, anyone reading this, a divorced/single/widower women who lives with ANY form of pets... Don't ever get emotionally trapped. Do your business, avoid stepping a foot into her house as much as possible, drive her to your house and back if needed, and keep her at a safe distance so you can jump ship at ANY moment. Because she'll throw you out without a second thought.
A pet mom. A damn pet mom. I'm trying not to laugh, but damn if it ain't hard to hold down.
