Russia captures German-donated Marder IFV in ‘almost perfect’ condition
The German-made Marder infantry fighting vehicle was abandoned by Ukrainian forces somewhere near the village of Severnoe after becoming stuck in thick mud. The vehicle was used in a failed attempt to drive Russian forces out of the village, according to a technician known as ‘Kazbek’. He went on to describe the vehicle as ‘fully operational’ with ‘all elements and parts present as expected.’
Being the first Marder to be captured by Russian forces, it will be taken for ‘disassembly and study’ as opposed to being pressed into service. It is one of 90 Marder 1A3 IFVs sent by Germany to Ukraine, however many of that number have since been destroyed.
