The Eleventh Day
by Emmanuel Matteer, Jr.
I rose from my bed today
To four birds led astray
Amidst each tall tower
Moving inward the eleventh minute of the ninth hour
Screams from the ground below
Blanketed with cemented dust like brutal snow
Blood and bones running from that block of mile
In chaotic discord safe from hostile
The hour after came with colored lights
To salvage what is left of rubble heights
To cleanse this sordid moment of worldly drama
Pieced with tact in name from Osama
I savor the sympathy of the unloved with the hurting
Though it is too late to mull the reverting
Of this fateful moment here on Ruby Tuesday
With no red, black, and blue, on this eleventh day.
