Sri Lanka denounces interim president amid state of emergency
Protests continue in Colombo amid the Sri Lankan crisis. Dozens gathered at the city’s railway station to protest against interim president Ranil Wickremesinghe. He became the country’s acting leader after his predecessor, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, resigned following months-long mass protests over the country’s economic collapse. Wickremesinghe has declared a state of emergency in Sri Lanka as protesters demand his resignation, two days before a new president is to be elected.
